The Middle Marches Baron and Baroness are empowered by the Crown to recognize members of their populace of their achievements in the Society. This formal process is to acknowledge and recognize the skills and contributions of members of the Society, showing respect for their hard work and efforts.

YOUTH AWARDS

In almost every respect, the future of the SCA depends on our efforts now to encourage the activity of youth members, and to provide them with a fun, educational environment in which to grow as both people and members of the SCA. These awards are not intended to take the place of our other awards for service, arts and sciences, and martial activity, but rather are meant to recognize the joy in a child’s eyes when they learn or do something new and exciting.

AWARD OF THE HOPE
OF THE MIDDLE MARCHES

The Award of the Hope of the Middle Marches is awarded to youth members ranging from the ages 3 to 10 who have shown an exceptional interest in learning about and participating in SCA activities within the Barony. This award may be received more than once.

AWARD OF THE CHEVRON AND THE FLAME OF THE MIDDLE MARCHES

The Award of the Chevron and the Flame of the Middle Marches is awarded to youth members ranging from the ages 10 to 15 that have made a contribution to the Barony through their example of dedication to service, the arts and sciences, or learning martial skills on the field. Such a youth spends their time not just learning and doing, but also encouraging their peers to experience the joy of our Barony and Society. This award may be received more than once.

ORDER OF THE RED CHEVRON
OF THE MIDDLE MARCHES

The Order of the Red Chevron of the Middle Marches is an order for youth members ranging from the ages 15 to 18 who have shown long and exemplary dedication to, and support of, the Barony. Such a youth has shown a true love of our Barony and Society through their activity and their willingness to help other people experience the Dream. Members of the Order are charged to show the same dedication to the Society as adults, wherever their travels may take them. As this is an Order, such recognition may only be received once.

ARTS AND SCIENCES AWARDS

Of the three main pursuits in SCA, Arts and Sciences can sometimes seem the most vague, as they cover such a broad range of studies and practices, but it is important to remember that the Arts and Sciences are absolutely everywhere we look in the SCA. From the clothes we wear, to the tools we use, the food we eat, and the scrolls we receive are all the result learning the medieval Arts and Sciences. These awards are designed to recognize the efforts of the members of our Barony to expand our understanding and enjoyment of these modern Middle Ages.

ORDER OF THE GILDED REED

The Order of the Gilded Reed is awarded to those who have made an effort to learn about the Arts and Sciences and have implemented their new skills within the Barony. This award may be received more than once.

The Award of the Compass of the Middle Marches is awarded to those who have developed a proficiency within the arts and sciences, and have implemented those skills for the betterment of the Barony. This award may be received more than once.

OF THE MIDDLE MARCHES

The Order of the Pillar of the Middle Marches is an order for those who have developed longstanding and exceptional proficiency within the arts and sciences, and have actively worked to pass that talent along to others. As this is an Order, such recognition may only be received once.

MARTIAL AWARDS

The pursuit of martial perfection is at the same time one of the most widely recognized and yet most elusive pursuits in our Society. Martial activities such as armored combat, rapier fighting, archery, and thrown weapons seek to emulate similar activities from the Middle Ages. Just as excellence in those pursuits was awarded in period, these awards are meant to recognize the efforts of those in our barony who participate in the arts martial.

WARDEN OF THE MIDDLE MARCHES

The Warden of the Middle Marches is awarded to those participants in the martial arts and who have made an effort to improve their skill and demeanor on the field of the lists. This award may only be awarded once per discipline.

The Award of the Hero of the Marches is awarded to those participants in the art martial who have continued to improve their prowess and have used their skills to serve the Barony within the lists. This award may only be awarded once per discipline.

ORDER OF TITAN
OF THE MIDDLE MARCHES

The Order of Titan of the Middle Marches is an order for those participants in the arts martial who have developed exceptional prowess on the list fields and have sought to be an unceasing example of their skill, teaching it to others and providing extraordinary martial service to the Barony. As this is an Order, such recognition may only be received once.

SERVICE AWARDS

Service in the Society is often a field of unsung heroes. Service can mean anything from helping to carry a jug of water to assisting with event activities to holding offices that allow our Society to function. These awards are intended to recognize those unsung heroes in our Barony that work behind the scenes providing everyone else with the Dream.

AWARD OF THE SABLE GATE
OF THE MIDDLE MARCHES

The Award of the Sable Gate of the Middle Marches is awarded to those who have sought to serve where and when they can within the barony without thought of themselves; only others. This award may be received more than once.

The Order of the Watchful Tower is awarded to those who have continued to serve the barony through their effort, leadership, and initiative. This award may be received more than once.

The Award of the Shepherd of the Middle Marches is an order for those have provided the Barony with long and exemplary service including holding positions of leadership, actively encouraging new members to volunteer their time, and serving as an example for others. As this is an Order, such recognition may only be received once.

The Order of the Golden Affodil is awarded by the Baroness to those who have been an outstanding example of Courtesy and Chivalry within the Barony. This award may be received more than once.
